Change
Sometimes one is fortunate to receive a second chance, and even a third. Some live their whole lives never having such opportunities, and even rarer are those who are offered entirely new lives to live.
Day 0:
Introducing Jumper J
It's funny, I never thought that day would come and since then my life has been forever altered, but there is a lot to catch up on, so let's start from the beginning
"Just another damn day..." I said as I woke up from just 3 hours of sleep for the fifth time in a row. After doing my morning routine of using the bathroom, showering, and drinking some coffee I figured I had some spare time before I am busy for the rest of the day. I check my computer. When it turned on the screen went haywire, I always heard of the blue screen of doom, but this was something entirely different because it almost looked like a vortex of blue. In the vortex were just the words.
"Jesse, Would you like to change your life?"
I stared and stared, and I held this stare for what felt like eternity. There’s no way this could be serious right? But I thought about the way my life was at the time and aside from a great best friend and the occasional thunderstorm I enjoyed, my life had only been on a downward spiral for years. I mean hell, I was 26 working at Arbys! I sat in front of the computer. I figured just saying yes I would've gotten a reaction but since nothing came of that, I typed out the letters on screen.
Then everything changed.
The vortex expanded to all around me and I felt like I was sucked into the screen, except I never moved, more like everything around me disappeared. Then a smooth but loud voice came from all around me. "Greetings Jesse, I am known as QuickSilver, but you may call me Jump-chan, actually I prefer it, as that is my god-name."
"God-name?" I had no idea what this strange voice was even talking about. I was already lost from everything else happening.
"Ah, I see. Of course. Allow me to fully explain. You see, on rare occasions I grow weary and bored. When this happens I change the lives of some people who...seem like they have little reason for waking up. So. Today I chose you, Jesse. What this means is that you will be removed from your world for a time, during which I will place you in a different reality. Not to worry, when, if, you return here you will return to the exact moment you departed your world. Now, if you wish to continue, here are the Rules. it is fairly simple." A nice round table and an office chair appeared before me with a list of various choices on it and many poker chips. "I know you enjoy a bit of poker so I thought this might be a good way for you to do this. I know you are familiar with making choices and point concepts. Before you in the form of chips are 1000CP, or choice points. You will spend these to give yourself gear, alter what you are capable of doing, or even change your history. The choices are particular to where I am sending you. I have chosen the world of....Pokemon."
"Pokemon? So you wish to take me...and place me in the reality of Pokemon? I have to be asleep and dreaming, but still...on the off chance this is real. I mean I loved Pokemon when I was younger, and the games are still fun. Hell, what do I have to lose? I'll do it!" I yell to the blue all around me, as I quickly take the seat,
"Very well, take your time, there is no rush after all. You will be there for ten years, so be sure you are ready. I will be watching..." and as the voice drifted away. I looked at the options and took my chips. It's time to decide…
Freebies- Well of course I will take all these, even the red hat. Why the hell not? Though before I go maybe I'll ask if he can make the hat a dark blue...otherwise a bag that's big on the inside, pokegear, an already filled pokedex! some pokeballs and potions...these will all be pretty useful. Who would deny them?
Suddenly a magical dice appears before me to roll or use some chips to choose my region...screw it I'll roll. I have 10 years I could go everywhere if I really want anyway.
Roll 1d8 - 8 - Free pick- Well alright, not a big deal but I guess it's a good sign for my future? I'll choose Kanto, it's what I already know best and has more of my favorite Pokemon.
The d8 stays, and I see I must roll again or pay for my age. Well screw that.
Roll 1d8+9 - 13 - Not the worst age I could've gotten. Plus again not too big of a deal either. Ten years in this world is a lot anyway.
Okay so now I choose my background...alters my memories but it can be worked through so it's not a big deal. Plus I retain what I know now so sure.
Small town - 50cp - This can give me a small group of friends if I really want, including someone with a crush and I get to be pretty healthy, I'm not sick as is but physically, well, this will be a good change.
Starters...who will my first Pokemon be?
Actual starter- free - I choose charmander, no hesitation, no doubt. This is what I want. What I have always wanted. I will name him...Flambe. Don't need anything special for them.
Skills and abilities. This must be the meat now. Sure seems interesting. Let's do this.
Physical fitness- free for small towns- Well, yea I think this is an obvious choice.
Aura - 300cp discount - A discount for small town is perfect, saves me a lot of cp. Plus the ability to manipulate aura like a Lucario is an amazing ability just to start with, and everyone underestimates the power of Pokemon or their ability to grow. This could be extremely powerful!
Items, ah necessities...this is going to be a bit more than I have done to this point. These chips are really about to spread out now.
Motorcycle- 100cp- Infinite fuel is amazing, it is fast, I have always loved motorcycles, and it doesn't need to be packed necessarily. I am not worried about that.
Rapelling Rig- 50cp- Never know when you gotta move down a clift or anything and need a good rig, especially on adventures.
Laptop - 100cp - I feel coming from a world where the internet is a big deal, I might need this, and even if not I might be able to make great use of it.
Capture Styler - 200cp - I honestly don't need to catch every Pokemon or defeat everyone I see. But on occasion I may need some help, so a stylus like this could be insane in helping me since Pokemon will assist me once when I use it on them, so they remain free afterward and I get something I need.
Collapsible Baton - 50cp - Honestly, self-defense never hurts (though I can in theory use aura now.) Plus...I always kinda wanted a collapsible baton so it kinda gets me in all the right ways.
Rebreather - 50cp - A rebreather that lasts forever and helps for breathing underwater and toxic environments? I feel this is simply a must have.
3x master balls -100cp - It'll make my life a lot easier for the Pokemon I do wish to catch.
50k pokedollars - 50cp - I need the money ultimately otherwise I am going broke and there's no telling how that may really be.
HM Collection- 50cp - This will save me unnecessary time learning where to find these important skills as well as going through a lot of effort I could otherwise likely avoid.
Now I see I am 100 over on what I am allowed...but flaws are a thing I can take to correct this!
Swarmed - +100cp - A zubat swarm is going to annoy the hell out of me. But honestly a small price to pay for what I have taken.
Alright...It seems I made all my choices now what? I sit and wait a few minutes but nothing happens.
"Hey um...Jump-chan?" I question the blue void around me.
"Yes, I am here." The voice responds back.
“Well,” I start as I remember. “Can you turn my hat blue? Also…I see we can bring what’s on us and everything. Well can you merge my phone into my pokegear? And all my data apps documents, I have both my phone and I purchased a laptop. Would it be possible to just put it all in? I want my music, good reading, and all of that you know?”
“I believe that is a very simple request, I shall grant you this.” Jump-chan responded without hesitation.
"“And my name…I want to be called Jace. Last name is up to you I guess, just nothing ridiculous.” Jump-chan merely stated that it would be fine. “Then I...I am ready. Please. I am ready." I anxiously tell Jump-chan. I don't know what to expect.
"Very well, prepare yourself for you will begin immediately. Oh and before I send you... You should know. There will be another in the world as well. You will run into each other at some point, and be pleasantly surprised I imagine." He laughs.
"Wait wha-" I am cut off as the blue void closes in on me and I pass out.
Year 1:
Jumping Into Pokemon
I woke up in my bed. It was 9:00 AM and I smiled, a good amount of sleep last night! I hopped out of bed, used the bathroom as anyone should when they awaken. In the mirror was a young caucasian boy with dirty blonde hair just past the shoulder blue eyes. That was me. I got dressed and headed downstairs to greet my mom in the kitchen to get some breakfast. It wasn’t a huge house, even with two stories it was only a two bed one bath. Both bedrooms were on the smaller end though it still had enough space for everything. They were both upstairs along with the bathroom, downstairs was the kitchen and living room. Our kitchen was pretty well set, it had an electric stove along with a microwave, a fair sized counter on both sides of the kitchen with one having a more open area over it so with no wall you can see into the living room and interact with whoever is in the room. Of course, we had a sink and a dishwasher as well. The living room was pretty simple. It had a recliner, a couch, and a large tv. I had my game console, the Yintaro, hooked in as well. We were a gamer family. It was nice. I went over to my mom to give her a hug before I ate my steely-o’s but as I went to hug her I felt a strange sensation. I couldn’t tell if my mind was playing games with me or what but I swore I could remember things that, well they just made no sense. I shrugged it off, there must be nothing. I hugged her and sat down to my breakfast and ate like it was nobody’s business. My aura started to shine as I realized that I felt like I was ready to get going. This Aura had been with me all my life, since I was born. I was lucky to have a family and friends who accepted me even though I was so different because of it. I had my bag with all its contents as well as my pokegear in case I got any calls, most likely from Mom of course. Still saying goodbye is never easy, and it wasn’t any better saying goodbye to my mom. Saying goodbye to my dad the night before was hard already, he had to work though. I understood. Oh right, see this was the day a couple friends and I were leaving home to start on our own paths with lives centered around Pokemon. I already had a capture styler. I don’t know if I truly wish to be a Ranger, but I love Pokemon and I want to get the best styler they have so I figure I will have to spend at least some time with them. Right, back to mom. So I said goodbye, lots of tears between the two of us, and I left home. She would be fine. She had eevee and dad.
Two of my friends were waiting for me outside, they had barely got any sleep the night before they were so ready to get going. My friends were one boy and one girl, Brehndan and Mina. Brehndan was a typical twelve year old kid, had brown hair, hazel eyes, caucasian. Mina was more hispanic in appearance with long hair just passing her mid back. She wanted to get a Pokemon she was going to train and work with in hopes of winning countless beauty contests, and Brehndan wanted to be a Pokemon trainer with hopes of running his own gym one day. Our paths were going to diverge pretty fast, but we have each other for the moment. We got started walking, we had to go to the local Pokemon center to pick up the Pokemon Professor Oak sent each of us. I got my pokedex earlier as I wanted to learn all there was as soon as i could.
“Hi Nurse Joy!” the three of us yelled in unison as we walked into the center. We loved to see her, and it meant we would now get our Pokemon!
“Hi kids, I love to see you so excited! Are you ready to receive your Pokemon?” She asked, warmth in her voice.
“Yes please!” We responded.
“Well here they are.” She smiled as she handed us each a pokeball. I didn’t wait and immediately clicked to release my Pokemon, an amazing fire-type called Charmander. Before I could run out and truly embrace my new Pokemon though, Nurse Joy called out to me. “Jason please wait! Professor Oak, I don’t know why but he insisted I remind you that your charmander is named Flambe. That’s all, go on!” But I didn’t move. I couldn’t move. In the instant I looked at my charmander knowing its name, I remembered everything. It was still hazy, but I knew they weren’t false. My head started hurting but I got through it quickly.
“Arceus, I shouldn’t have picked to have memories so fast. But at least It’ll get easier to work through. I hope at least.” I whispered to myself. I couldn’t believe how real it all felt. Was this truly me in this world, and the memories are real, or did I just take over an innocent soul? I guess it didn’t matter in the end, but Arceus was it hard to work through at first.
My friends and I walked out of the Pokemon center together. We agreed to meet up and chat once in a while, making sure we had each other's numbers. But we separated there. It was for the best. Such different paths…
I walked over to the nearest parking garage to the Pokemon center where I kept my motorcycle. Turns out, age isn’t such a big deal in Pokemon. As long as you’re old enough to get a Pokemon you can be alone, ride motorcycles, purchase just about anything even. It was…liberating. I got on my motorcycle and took one last look around. The nearest Pokemon Ranger HQ was in the next town over and I wasn’t sure when I would head back this way. I looked long and hard, then I rode off, Flambe chilling in the side car. He was gonna be my buddy. Not just something I kept in a pokeball out of mind. And I rode on…on to Viridian City.
During the ride I had a lot of time to think. I looked at my Charmander, he looked, fit, as much as a young lizard that has fire and walks on two legs can. Professor Oak really delivered. I’d have to pay him back somehow. He was a nice reddish-orange hue and his fire was strong in his tail. He seemed to look at me with happiness in his eyes. A look I stopped getting a long time ago where I am from. It forced me to smile because I could tell, I already loved this charmander. I pulled over to the side after a while to take a break and let Flambe get some movement going. As we did I saw it. A swarm of Zubats. “Shit…already?” Flambe looked at them as well. He was ready to fight, well, we didn’t have a choice. Still I just got Flambe. He couldn't take this swarm alone. It may be zubat, but for a low level even they can be a problem.
I began charging my aura. “Well Flambe, our training starts today, you in general as my buddy, and myself with my aura, though luckily my history has given me a bit of a leg up there,” I said as I formed a sphere and launched it at the closest few zubats. It hit hard and they went down, thank Arceus. But there were so many more. Flambe was ready as I was though, and let go a breath of flame taking out a couple more. I covered him from attacks with a barrier as he took a few more and then on opposite sides I launched a sphere as he hit another zubat. When the last of them fell we were panting, but it was rewarding as hell. I just fought side by side with my own Charmander, Flambe… This might be the start of a great decade.
When we finally rolled into Viridian City it was getting fairly late. I heard Flambe’s stomach growl and realized we needed some din-din. We went into the nearest equivalent of a restaurant, prices weren’t as outrageous as I feared and realistically wouldn’t even dent my financial situation. So I sat down with Flambe and ordered us some food. Unfortunately, it turns out the theories from the Earth I came from were true, pokemon indeed were food. Though, I guess I always knew that due to certain pokedex entries… Still that’s good to know considering the zubat swarms. I wondered what that meant since my pokemon supposedly couldn’t die, how’s this whole situation working? Maybe best not to question it. I got my Flambe the finest poke food they had to offer, after all we had only just begun but I felt close to him already, and he needed to know that I was gonna be with him all the way. After eating, we finished our trip over to the Ranger HQ. Walking in, I was amazed, Ranger uniforms everywhere with many different people wearing them and performing different tasks. Some tending to pokemon since the pokecenter, as helpful as it was, tended to more domesticated pokemon vs the wild. Others practicing the spins on their stylers or fixing them up. I was astounded, I must’ve dropped my jaw or stood for a long time because a lady of about 20 I believe came up to me asking if i was lost.
“No ma’am! I actually, well I, uh, I wanted to become a pokemon ranger that went out and calmed pokemon and helped them to be better for themselves and others!” I exclaimed likely a little too loudly.
She laughed, “Well aren’t you ambitious! Well, fortunately even though we aren’t looking for any true rangers at the moment, we do welcome new hands like yours to help us out and take care of things. Why don’t you take one of the small guest rooms we keep on hand. You and your Charmander rest up and we will discuss what everythings entails tomorrow?” she pointed me to the correct room and noted down my charmander and my names. With the first day finally finished I was worn out. It was going to be some work separating all these memories from each other, but with being busy and the time I have, I think I will be alright.
As it turned out, being a ranger, even helping out the rangers, was a lot harder than I had originally figured, but it was always worth it. Turns out all the jobs I saw that day weren’t different jobs altogether, but jobs every person must do. There are only so many rangers and helping hands to do work, but a never ending supply of pokemon in need of aid. The kind lady, whose name ended up being Gabby, was very helpful every step of the way. She was sort of what would be considered a senior ranger in the HQ, and she didn’t have to be the one to help me by any means, but she took the time to do so and I was ever grateful. She was surprised when
I showed her I had my own styler, even if it is outdated by this point. She told me however, that after a year of aid, if I didn’t walk away by the end of it, that as a helping hand I would be gifted the newest version of styler straight from her, she even whispered a secret to me about it being possible to modify it to unlock a hidden ability. I couldn’t be more excited.
I wish I could say every day was packed with excitement, that so many pokemon were in the wild wrecking things and needed to be calmed down, that I just threw friendship into them. But that wasn’t the case. Every day was work…hard work. I would be lying if I said I didn’t consider walking away at least once. I have never been squeamish, nor overly emotional, but seeing so many hurting pokemon, it takes a toll on your mind. Still I stuck through it. I did help pokemon, I helped them heal. My aura helped me to have a knack for that. I trained my aura during these trying times, and it turns out even though aura is so rare, Ranger HQ’s have a room dedicated to Aura. Usually for pokemon like Riolu and Lucario to go to, but they saw it as an opportunity for my own personal growth as well. I was a natural with the styler, turns out being incapable of being dizzy, a strange little detail from my original life, is actually helpful in using the things. I even helped professional rangers get better use out of their stylers, the newer ones at that, and caused the breaking of stylers to be drastically reduced in our region. Because of my unique talent with the styler I never had an issue with my styler breaking, which was good because even six months in I still was using my original styler. Halfway there I thought to myself, as I helped about ten rangers and 9 helping hands move a snorlax out of a pathway that linked us to Pallet Town. During all this my charmander was getting stronger as well, combat turns out not to be the only way for pokemon to gain experience or in a sense level up. As a matter of fact at that six month mark, Flambe evolved into Charmeleon. Arceus, he looked like such a badass.
I guess it helps that he was my focus since I caught no other pokemon, and we kept fighting zubats. The rangers didn’t seem to mind the zubat fights though, and even were kinda thankful, using them to supply wings and other food to the city, and free for me since Flambe and I did the hard work. Turns out zubats, ratatas, and pidgeys, not their evolved forms, are severely overpopulated. Thinking about the games I had to stifle a laugh about how annoyingly frequently they would pop up. However in that sixth month there was an interesting event that happened, Flambe and I loved that day, though it started terribly.
This was a day in the woods with Gabby, she wanted me to get a bit more experience out in the wild for whenever I decide to set off on my own. I admit it was hard, real hard. I was never a fan of going into the wild for hikes or camping trips back in my world. I mean, no toilet? That’s tough man. Still I stuck it out. The reward was too great and honestly, helping the pokemon was a gift in a way for me. One night we were around the campfire. Flambe was nice enough to light up with his tail, we heard a cry. Gabby and we quickly ran to find the source. A squirtle was being attacked by an Electrobuzz. We couldn’t see any way it would’ve been provoked and figured it must be bullying a weaker pokemon. Gabby wanted to assess the situation and decide on the best course of action, and I understood that, but I could not just leave the poor thing alone like that! I sent Flambe in behind an aura sphere I shot quickly before the electrobuzz sent out another shock. The aura sphere caught the shock just before contact and canceled it out. Behind the resulting confusion Flambe used flamethrower. He must’ve been stronger than I thought because it left a harsh burn on the fleeing Electrobuzz. I let it go, my business wasn’t about vengeance after all. I ran over to the squirtle and took out a potion, assuring it with soft words and what I assume was Flambe saying the same, and proceeding to spray it. It seemed like it stung a bit, but he perked up fast. Thank Arceus this one wouldn’t need the medkit. After the squirtle got some pep back in his step, I got up and prepared to walk away. Flambe however, didn’t start walking with me like she usually did. I turned to the sounds of the squirtle and her seemingly talking about something. I waited until Flambe walked over and tugged on my pants. It continued its chattering pointing at the squirtle, which was looking at me almost happily. I just couldn’t understand. “I’m glad the squirtle is okay to Flambe, he seems very thankful. Maybe we’ll run into him again sometime and you’ll play together alright?” I started to walk away again, but Flambe jumped and snatched out one of my empty pokeballs from my bag. “Flambe what are you-” I started, but then I understood as Flambe rolled the pokeball over to the squirtle. Squirtle, of his own free will, clicked the pokeball, and allowed himself to be caught. I caught squirtle, without even meaning to. I turned to Gabby unsure if there was some sort of protocol about catching the pokemon we help.
“Well,” she started, seeming a bit surprised about what she had just seen. “It is your full right to catch any pokemon you deem fit in the wild… and the squirtle must’ve gotten attached when you helped it, after all you didn’t fight or try to catch it. The squirtle did this on his own, with aid from your Chameleon of course. I don’t see any reason to disagree with what has happened, as long as you take good care of it of course.” She said and smiled. I smiled back at her then went and picked up the pokeball. Just like I did with Flambe, I immediately released the squirtle and told him that unless he wanted a rest inside it, he was more than welcome to walk alongside us outside. He looked so happy about my words he ran up to my leg and gave me a little hug. I thought about a good name for him, and as I took out my blue cap from my bag, I placed it down on his head and said, “Buddy, your name can be Geyser, and we are so happy to have you with us!” I never thought I could see pokemon as happy as Flambe and Geyser looked right then.
Year 2:
An Old Friend
The rest of the first year actually went quite fast, so I will summarize what happened that is of importance. First, Gabby was extremely kind and thought I would get more use out of one of the best items I had ever known in Pokemon, than her. So she gave me what is called an exp share, which I proceeded to activate right away. What this did is allow all my pokemon to benefit from what one pokemon does. It may sound sucky for the hard worker, but when you think about it, it is logical and helpful. After all, what one does well another doesn’t but the situation can be reversed. In this way they share what they do together and gain experience in situations that otherwise couldn’t. Listen, Flambe and Geyser understood. Thankfully, this helped to cause the main thing of importance for the year. Flambe had become a beautiful and graceful Charizard, and cute little Geyser had evolved not just into Wartortle, but even further to become the powerful cannon wielding Blastoise. Geyser and Flambe were just like siblings, they bickered but there was always love. To me, they were my adorable baby bodyguards! Ah and of course, at the exact one year mark, Gabby came to see me as I finished helping an injured Ponyta.
“So, one year you stayed with us. I know you had your motivations but I am sure getting paid to be a helping hand was good too?” She nudged me playfully. “Anyway, I made you a promise and here it is. The most modern up to date styler we have, the guardian styler.I won’t lie either, I may have modified it already. It isn’t technically allowed, but nobody will say anything, after all I lead this HQ and have so far heard nothing. Just work under the rule of, don’t ask, don't tell. Okay?” She smiled, handing me a Deep blue Guardian Styler which I immediately placed on my wrist. I thanked her profusely as getting this styler was a big deal to me, and the fact it was already modified made it even better. I stayed a few more months because even though I had saved up the money I brought into the world and the HQ provides necessities to its inhabitants, well, I figured I don’t know how long I can last and they pay even the helping hands extremely well. Plus in the spirit of honesty, Winter isn’t an easy season. Even in the PokeWorld. Plus it would give me a chance to finish training up the rest of a party of Pokemon I had acquired in the first year, currently with Flambe and Geyser were a Haunter named Void, a Kadabra named Seer, (Yes, I provided a spoon.) A Pidgeot that was named Ginger (evolved very quickly!), who loved to fly with me on her back for some reason. Exercise? And Ivysaur named Lavender, who heavily preferred gardening and other tasks concerning plants as opposed to battle. Battled hard when he had to though. It was a good party, after winter ended and money was as good as it will get for a while, it would be time to get going.
In July of my second year in Pokemon World (I figured I’d stick around during spring since Lavender loves to do the plant work so much), I was gearing up, getting ready to depart this Ranger HQ for good. I honestly didn’t expect to get one last mission thrust upon me, but after everything they had done for me I figured why not? Some guy was going crazy on a nearby mountain and apparently believed he could fight against Pokemon, like pokemon. Kept yelling something ridiculous like Primal Evolution. I had to go, heal the guy as needed, hopefully calm down any Pokemon nearby, and hope he chills out after that. Fair enough, not too hard for my now fully evolved party I have walking with me. It took little time to get to the nearby mountain, but what I saw was fucking ridiculous.
A wreck of a man is how I could’ve described him at that time. He looked emaciated, he was filthy and what’s worse is as I saw him, he was tearing himself apart. One of his arms had already been broken, as I was seeing this I realized why. This man was trying to fight an Onix. A literal boulder snake. Onix is big, hard, and powerful. A definite powerhouse among pokemon. The man tried punching Onix again but nothing happened, and I could see from Onix’s face that it didn’t want to harm the man, but felt it was being given no choice in the matter. I urgently called to the man to stop but he didn’t listen. Then he threw a final punch. This one I didn’t expect. He punched the Onix hard enough to launch him a good several feet away from him. But the process broke his other shoulder and he collapsed to the ground, he was out cold. I couldn’t stop to give him thought right away however, and called on my pokenav for a Ranger to call Emergency services to come get a man down. At this point Onix, though pitiful towards the man, had just been punched hard and sent to an enraged point. Geyser stood by, cannons at the ready, but I held him back. I threw my wrist out as the Onix began to charge back at us guarding the man. This would be my first time using this new styler, I hoped it had been worth the wait. I threw out the disk, and the process began. Luckily this Onix seemed to never encounter a Ranger before so it was instantly confused and instead of trying to charge through it full force he took a defensive approach to it. That’s fine, I wasn’t here to bring it further harm. The styler flew and my compassion and understanding of how Onix felt slowly flowed into him. I could see Onix beginning to calm and become docile once more. Once he fully stopped resisting, I knew I had finished my job. I ceased use of the styler, but before deactivating it, it began to glow and showed a strange symbol. An Onix symbol. I decided to question it later. Emergency personnel had arrived to take care of the injured man, and I was taking care of the now crying Onix. Poor thing, never wanted to harm him. Clearly something had agitated it to be this way. I would have to talk to the man about this. After handling the Onix I went back to the personnel with the unconscious man, but as I got closer, I realized exactly who this was. It was my best friend, my brother, from Earth, my Earth. “Claude…you fucking idiot.”
I went with the emergency personnel after, having to explain that I knew him in a manner of speaking. I had nothing at that moment to mitigate what damage he has just doomed this world too however. I didn’t know what Jump-chan was talking about when he said there would be a surprise, but to find Claude of all things? Then the guy wants to go and fight pokemon and do, i don’t even know, a pokemon move of all things? So naturally, a few scientists were called in. They put him into a pod in a top security room in the hospital in Viridian. The pod was large and was filled with a strange gel-like substance, searching through all my memories, of this world and the other, I vaguely remembered a movie with this, I believe the Pokemon Mewtwo was inside it? I don’t recall a specific purpose for it except that scientists were studying and then it escaped… Why was it here? I knew the scientists would want to study Claude because of this entire thing but, in this manner?
After speaking to a scientist and Nurse Joy, I was told that the gel in these pods is a specialty healing gel used in only exceptional cases. Whether to my delight or misfortune, this definitely fit the ticket. We left him there for the rest of the day and cleared out. The scientists were having a disagreement and the nurse insisted that before anything else is done, he needs at least a day uninterrupted in the pod. Unfortunately, my adventure would not be starting yet it seems.
The next day I went in to visit my old friend, only to walk into a heated argument between the scientists. “There is no way a human man, no matter how filthy or screwed up mentally he may be, punched an Onix, especially using a Pokemon move! It’s impossible!” One yelled.
Another refuted, “It is there on his chart, it has a name, a type, the Onix went flying according to our sources, nothing else explains such a phenomenon, it may not make sense but it is what happened!”
“I heard there were spots of madness not too long ago, are you sure you didn’t walk through one of those? Perhaps one of those could have caused such a hallucination. The boy was obviously attacked by a rabid pokemon. I told him to take his styler, but I could see it in his eyes when I handed it to him, he was already planning on being reckless,” A female ranger stated, clearly disappointed in Claude. I looked over at the pod and it seemed he had awoken, but he didn’t seem nearly aware enough to get up or do much.
“I’m seasoned enough to know how to avoid a nightmare domain in the wild. Ghosts are common in certain areas of the wild. No, I’m sure of what I saw. That's how he broke his arms. Can you just run some tests?” I asked the scientists. Honestly if they want to find out they may as well do what they are going to do instead of standing around like kids bickering. They stared at one another for a long pause, but then they started to get to work. Unfortunately that really wasn’t my area of expertise so I left them to it as did the female ranger. I went back to my room at the HQ, not much else I could do at the moment. Everything was packed near Claude and I still couldn’t enjoy large amounts of people, and I couldn’t go into the room during testing so as to not get in the way. Sitting in the room with all my Pokemon, I was left more to my thoughts. I realized it has been a while since I last talked to Brehndan and Mina, my old friends. I hoped they were doing well and had gotten some work done on their respective journeys. I decided that if the next day wasn’t too busy I would find time to give them both a call. There was a lot to tell them and I hoped much for them to tell me as well. I would’ve called them that day, but I didn’t know yet what to say or how to go about it. Calling old friends is always a little tricky because what if they have moved on past you? Hell, what if Claude himself had completely forgotten about me by now and I am staying behind to help someone who could care less about my existence? It is what it is, being a pokemon ranger means to help others, even if that other isn’t actually a pokemon. I went to sleep that night not completely sure on how to proceed.
When I got to the Medical room Claude was in the next day, I was told to wait as they were already running more tests. It was just as well since I decided to call Brehndan and Mina. My conversations with them were very telling. Brehndan had already become a very strong trainer with a good team of pokemon on his side. He claimed 4 badges from pokemon gyms and was on his way to the fifth, I told him how impressed I was and I looked forward to hearing about more of his journey after a while. I of course told him about my time with Rangers and how I acquired the styler I had been trying to get. He sounded happy for me. He had to go though, and couldn't talk too much on the trail as he had to stay focused. I understood and let him go. It was a similar conversation with Mina, who was currently number 1 in every beauty contest her pokemon had entered. Extremely impressive and she was definitely making a name for herself. She had to get back to it as well though. It was nice to hear from them even for a short time. They seemed happy, and I was glad I could tell they were happy for me as well, even if I felt like I made nowhere near the progress in over a year that they did. Truthfully, in a year I had hoped for more progress. I refuse to be disappointed in myself though, after all I got my styler I have been wanting, took on only Arceus knows how many zubats, and have a great team that I couldn’t be more proud of. All in all, maybe I should be proud of myself. Nothing wrong with overprep with my future plans right?
After a few days Claude had finally woken up. He had been tested on a small amount just to see what had happened but no conclusions were drawn and I refused for them to treat him as a guinea pig going forward. He was my best friend, even after all this time, and I refused to stand by in such a manner. After eating some food from the hospital's cafeteria I almost stepped into the room, but heard a voice alongside Claude’s. I hid behind the wall until I felt the conversation ended, which was with an offer to set Claude up nice if he agreed to be tested and work for the town's gym leader. “He will consider your offer sir, now kindly I need to speak with my old friend, you wouldn’t be offering him this had I not found him after all.” I stated bluntly.
“Of course, of course. You two have a good time and you sir!” He points at claude. “You best get to thinkin’ on my offer soon.” And with that he walked out. I sighed. I just couldn’t figure out how to approach this. It’s a fair offer and logically, he would be better with that than fighting another Onix in the wilds. What a pain I swear…
“Claude, listen man. We need to talk. About this offer I overheard that guy giving you..”I started.
“Claude? How do you know that name? My name's Aleco, who are-” He abruptly stopped. His face scrunched up as he looked at me intensely. I could see in his eyes when something clicked. “Jesse…so you are the one who’s voice I kept hearing! Well that makes a lot of sense now. Why are you here? Oh wait, that mysterious guy, Quicksilver? Yea, he said something before poofing my ass here about someone else having been sent here. I can’t believe it’s you. We brothers, we really are here. Both of us. Incredible.”
It took me a minute to respond. I guess I didn’t expect such an energetic response, but after over a year here it does make sense that I could forget little things like that. Especially since it is a contrast to how I react to things. “Well. I will still call you Aleco as that is your choice for a new name right? You can call me Jace. Listen, Cl…Aleco. I had to think about it and in the end it is your choice, but I think that perhaps you should actually take his offer.” I wave my hand to stop him from interrupting. “Look, I was the biggest obstacle for these nurses and the scientists to not test you further than they have. Those tests were random and maybe even harmful to your time here. This though, this is an opportunity. One for money, one for training, whether it's your pokemon, or well, or you Aleco. I don’t know what you have done. Within you I sense even your own confusion. It’s alright though. You do what you must and we will cross paths again. If we don’t, well. Let’s plan to meet on the last day of our ten years here, and end this journey together. We have our own paths to being the best anyway. Sound good?” I offered my hand.
Aleco smiled, accepting my hand. He had to finish resting and think about his opportunity. It was time for me to leave as well. This was a fairly large detour and I wanted to get started on my own journey. It’s time the world got to know Jace O’Handley.
Year 5:
The Hunt Begins
I would have written about years 3 and 4 but it would’ve wasted a lot of space. It was primarily to travel and too many zubats for a lifetime. I had traveled a lot in Kanto taming different Pokemon and helping any that needed it as I went. Would’ve run into a lot of dead ends and tough spots if not for my repelling rig. Thank Arceus I decided to get that. However over the 2 years besides learning a couple special sigils for a few pokemon I encountered and traveling all over, I wasn’t sure what to do. Then I remembered something from my past, and something I could hope to achieve. There are many legendary pokemon in this world. I can’t nor do I want them all. There are definitely ones I would love to get though. So, I journeyed to the Hoenn region. There we are in year 5 of my time in this world. I encountered both Team Magma and Team Aqua, truthfully both are very ignorant and unaware. They give away plans, locations, details, and all sorts of information without a second thought. I almost felt bad for drowning the Magma base and firing up the Aqua base but I found it pretty funny and they couldn’t even start to follow through with their plans after that. I even found a Master ball inside the Magma base, so that makes 4 I think? Either way, time to begin, and hope to Arceus it works.
So, I walked into the Terra Cave of Origin. I won’t lie. I was actually scared. I never have fought something that would be of this magnitude, and I didn’t know if it would react to the Red Orb even if the pokemon itself was not in my possession, which would make it a thousand times harder. If that happened I would have to hope my mega bracelet would grant my pokemon enough power to take him on… I will definitely keep the orb concealed in hopes that will keep it from transforming. No pokemon stood before my guardians Flambe, Geyser, and myself. Can’t say I blame them, we were about to fight a legendary foe, plus Flambe and Geyser were no pushovers. I had a feeling if levels were a thing here they would both be at 100 by now. Even with that type of confidence though, I highly doubt anything would ever be enough preparation for this beast. Finally we stood before it. Groudon. The Primal fire-beast of the land. Even with the intense heat I wanted to admire his sheer size, power, and odd sort of beauty. However, though not enough to awaken his primal energy, just the presence of the red orb was enough to awaken Groudon from his deep slumber. Turns out, sleeping for ages does nothing to slow you down. Groudon immediately upon awakening launched a huge fire blast at us, but Geyser met it with a hydro pump turning it into steam, and a massive amount at that. That fire would have fried us instantly, maybe I should have had medical backup waiting for me…
The battle raged on even as I thought. Flambe and Geyser worked together brilliantly but Groudon hardly seemed to weaken. I tried at one point having the rest of the team help but unfortunately even with the sheer power of them together they had to return, whether due to the heat or not being able to get any moves in. I could have thrown my master ball at any point I am sure you believe. It is not as simple as games make it seem. Once inside it may be perfect, but getting it to do that is much harder than you would ever believe. One throw is all you get unless you can retrieve the ball back, and with a beast like this, he could easily shoot it down before it even got close. Groudon hesitated on one of his attacks, maybe charging up. I took the chance, and had Geyser and Flambe combine their powers and use fire and water pledge to combine their power and greatly impact Groudon. As it finally reeled from the attack, I threw the master ball. Groudon was hit by it and I ran to catch the master ball with him inside. Finally, I succeeded. Groudon was my first legendary I caught. It took more than I expected, I praised my guardians and treated them to a lot of poke treats that night.
I couldn’t believe it, I still can’t. I looked at the master ball that held Groudon for a long time. One of the ancient trio, Groudon was no joke. While Flambe and Geyser slept I continued to look at it. Groudon, what name could be fitting of such a beast? I decided first I should try to bond with him. I would need his support in the future and I love all my babies, even a big primal beast that could terminate me in a second baby. I went a small distance away to a large empty terrain and released groudon for the first time. It was still enormous, I could feel the sheer power radiating from it. I raised my hand hesitantly to it. Groudon seemed confused at first, but it saw how happy and peaceful Geyser and Flambe slept, and it understood. It lowered its head down to my hand, and I pet Groudon gently. “You know, I think you will be a great baby of mine.” I smiled. It returned to the master ball, and I went to sleep for the night. I could feel the energy from the red orb, it seems I can choose to release his primal power anytime I choose. That could be a great benefit in future endeavors. I believe I will name him Apollo.
In about the ninth month of the year, I had finally decided. I must take on Rayquaza at the Sky Tower next. I didn’t believe I wanted a straight Groudon Kyogre fight and I couldn’t take Flambe underwater, nor most of my party realistically. Geyser and my now Gengar, Void would honestly be all I get for help down there unless I get Rayquaza. So, on Ginger with Flambe taking the rear, we flew to the Sky Tower. This was likely going to be tougher than the fight I had with Apollo being that Rayquaza is the peacemaker between them. Still, I can’t be more ready, I have to go into this or I never will. Why waste my time? I go in or I go home and I refuse to go home. We landed atop the Sky Tower, and there lay Rayquaza. He awoke as soon as we landed and looked at us with wary eyes, and a determined grimace. He knew we were there to fight and he clearly did not believe he would lose. So I threw the whole team out because I was not taking chances on this one. Ginger, Void, a recently evolved Venusaur, Flambe, Geyser, and even Apollo were all out ready to fight. Rayquaza is not a fool though and immediately took high into the air. I had Apollo enter his Primal state, and I used mega evolution with Flambe. I took to the sky on Flambe with Ginger following. Lavender started charging a solar beam from the tower. It was a difficult battle, especially having to stay balanced the whole time. We kept going higher as well, I had to make use of my rebreather. We got so high otherwise I would have been lightheaded without it. After what felt like an eternity of a back and forth fight of evasion, as many attacks missed, which is lucky on our side as one hit likely meant a crash and burn to our untimely deaths. However we only landed two flamethrowers, an aerial ace, and a couple of my aura spheres and nothing seemed to damage him much. Suddenly however a blast from out of nowhere hit Rayquaza in the side. It appeared to do absolutely nothing but piss him off to the fullest extent, but thankfully it distracted him long enough for me to set off operation dragon landing. All at once I launched a full aura sphere, Flambe launched a fire blast, Geyser shot off a hydro cannon, gengar shot a shadow ball, Venusaur and Apollo together launched a solar and hyper beam respectively all straight into Rayquaza. It hit hard, and it began to go down. Before it fell completely however, I threw my master ball and Rayquaza was mine. I couldn’t believe that in one year I had acquired two of the Ancient Trio that I sought after. I couldn’t have been more amazed with myself, or happy and proud of my team. I spent a night with Rayquaza under the moonlight, and just talked to it. It seemed happier after doing so, to join me. I named it Osiris.
Year 6:
Going Underwater
I waited until the summer of year 6 to finally take the plunge and go underwater. I was terrified of this plan but I knew I would regret it if I never went for the chance to awaken and tame the sea beast Kyogre. I decided for this venture, I was going to need to use my Guardian Styler, which thank Arceus, was fully functional and made for intentional use underwater. I won’t lie, I would have loved to just catch Kyogre. I did not feel I could give it the life I would have wanted however, and would not call on it nearly as much as I felt I may for the others. However, I still could not pass up on the opportunity to tame the third of the trio, so my fear of the oceans had to take a backseat. I understand it might have been foolish to be so afraid of going underwater, or in the oceans at all. In my original life, I had never learned to swim, I also almost drowned on more than one occasion which made my attempts at trying to learn end in failure. I simply couldn’t get past it, though I managed to float at one point. In this life though, it was different. I learned how and was a very capable swimmer due to my history in the Pokemon world. It surprisingly did very little to alleviate my fears. The only things that really got me to go through with it was my desire to live this life to the fullest extent I could, and the hope of getting to hug Kyogre once the tides had calmed.
It was going to be difficult to fight Kyogre without Flambe or Apollo, but with Osiris on my side along with Geyser and Void I felt we could get the job done. With my rebreather in place, I drew out a sigil I learned years prior and called upon a Gyrados I helped before. It came to my call and atop it I rode down followed by Osiris and Geyser to go to the Marine Cave of Origin. Once we were down far enough and the path caused a slowing in movement, I released Void from his pokeball to follow along. Deeper inside the cave was Kyogre, asleep much like Apollo was. The great Leviathan in contrast to Apollo the Behemoth. I suppose it's comparable to the largest of whales back in my home world. Like the time before, the blue orb in my pack began to pulse, and like no other force in the seas, Kyogre awakened with a vengeance. I rode Gyrados a short distance further away from the fight, he wasn’t here to aid in this challenge, he was only here to aid my being here while the others fought. Void started it off shooting a shadow ball at the enormous whale. Quickly followed by a whirlpool created by Geyser which helped to hurl Osiris’s energy ball directly at Kyogre. Luckily, there was clearly damage from that move. I was glad to see that the few grass moves Osiris can use would benefit the fight, as electric moves though helpful, wouldn’t be the best option when we were all underwater. It got me thinking though, if we could pull Kyogre out of here and bring him to the surface we might have a better shot. I signaled for the team to pull out slow, in a luring way. They got the hint and followed me, evaded attacks from Kyogre, often narrowly. I would be lying if I said a few didn’t hit Geyser or Osiris, luckily though Void was able to keep out of reach and Gyrados knew to stay further ahead than the rest. Once we got it out of the cave we lured it upwards. Close enough to the sun, Osiris shot off a powerful Solar beam at Kyogre, it was a perfect shot. Kyogre was rocked but not done yet. It was determined to stay on Osiris now though, which would only aid the finishing move in this plan. Osiris flew out of the water into the sky, Kyogre in its rage followed and briefly surfaced into the air by way of jumping. Long enough it broke into the air, to get struck by a thunderbolt created by Osiris. It stunned Kyogre hard, any move bigger or any pokemon weaker likely would’ve been out cold. I took the opportunity and drew out my guardian styler, and showed Kyogre I did this because I wished to be its friend forever. I wanted to wake him up so he didn’t spend his whole life asleep or in a non-ending fight with my Apollo, or even trying to drown the world. I loved Kyogre, and this was my way of trying to bring joy into its future. I succeeded. Kyogre gave a little squeal of delight, perhaps partly because there was no longer a need to fight, and because it could see it can have a happy life. I got off Gyrados to swim over and hug the big whale. I was a speck to its nose, but I could tell the gesture meant a lot, and it meant a lot to me as well. My styler glowed briefly and I saw on it, I had learned Kyogre’s sigil. An amazing event.
I couldn’t think of much else to do in this region, and of course I never named Kyogre as he did not belong to me, just a friend who could help me out one day if needed. I thought long and hard about where I want to go next, and though it was tough deciding, I knew it had to be the Sinnoh region I go to next. I was irritated at this point to have more travel time, but I knew I couldn’t complain, how could I? It has been an amazing time and it was already nearing the end. I shook off all my negative thoughts, I had work to do.
Year 7:
Distortions
I won’t lie, not much happened for the rest of year six, and through the heavy majority of year seven. I was searching for the legendary Giratina. That eventually felt like a fool's errand though, after all, it lived in the distortion world. How was I supposed to find it, or if I had to, how could I ever lure it out of the distortion world? I felt helpless, and with money finally running low from the starting cash as well as what I earned as my time with the Rangers, I needed to work. I aided the local infirmary for pokemon. It was the natural go to, pokemon often needed calming in such situations, or there would be emergencies where nurses needed to go out into the field so I would come along to aid them. It paid well enough, paid for my food as well as my pokemon, I used a shelter nearby that is meant for rangers and their apprentices. Overall life was alright, but I couldn’t figure out what to do. I figured I may have to go to plan B and forget all about Giratina. It would be a major disappointment as well since not only would I be unable to acquire Giratina, but I also raided Team Galactic’s HQ, took them out and acquired a special orb for the monster. Then I got an unexpected call. Mina was actually near me in Jubilife City, on the way to speak at a beauty contest for pokemon. We spoke briefly and agreed to meet the following evening.
I met with her at a nearby cafe, she was in a nice long royal blue dress. We hugged and greeted each other just like we used to. We made small talk and chit chat but something was clearly bothering her, and so I asked her what it was. “Well, it may sound odd but I just don’t know who to tell about this, I don’t want to alarm anyone.” She bit her lip, reluctant to go on. “I, well, I have been seeing these like portals, or rifts in the air just out in the wild not too far east from here. I swear once it looked like a pokemon flew out of it but, I just don’t know Jace. I’m worried.” She looked at me teary eyed.
“You said they have been east of here? Frequently? Listen Mina, you don’t need to tell anyone else about this. I will take care of it. Just trust ol’ Jace, I have fixed every other problem in the past right?” She nodded with a small smile. “Good, now you think you can sketch an approximate location for these rifts?” I asked, and began to plan.
So, it was in the final month of my seventh year that I ventured out to where Giratina should be, and I planned to catch it no matter what it took. I rode atop Osiris, Flambe was ready, Geyser was temporarily placed into his pokeball in case we had to make a quick jump into the distortion world, and Ginger followed behind. I waited for what felt like ages, but then it happened. A rift opened, and out flew the powerful Giratina.
Giratina looked oddly disturbed, as though it flew out here, possibly on multiple occasions, looking for something. However it saw me, and seemed to decide I was the problem. That was all fine with me, it just means I didn’t need to start this fight. It attempted to take us out quickly by launching its dragon breath at us, but Osiris countered with the same. It went to fly back through the rift to the Distortion world but we flew right in after him. He changed his form almost immediately and looked more like a flying serpent than a heavy dragon. We followed it into its home world and promptly sent an aura sphere at us, but I launched one of my own and they collided in the air negating each other. I sent out the whole team and when Giratina got that distracted look on its face again, launched the same all out attack that took down Osiris. A solar beam, Aerial ace Fire blast, Hydro cannon, and a full aura sphere. The only difference is this time Apollo used blaze burn and Osiris used Dragon ascent. Once the final move struck, I threw a master ball, and Giratina was a part of the team. After a short rest to let Giratina rest, I threw him out so he could open another rift to bring us all into our world. Finally, we were home in Jubilife City, and Giratina was a part of us. He was definitely different from the rest of the team, he needed a unique name. Izanami, that would be its name. Of course I gave it the Griseous orb core, to enhance its moves and transform it to its origin form.
Year 8:
The Most Powerful Psychic
After a great deal of thought, I knew I had to return to Kanto. The one legendary I have wanted more than anything has eluded me. I also could no longer maintain my position at the infirmary, apparently my escapades catching legendaries as well as calming Kyogre hasn’t gone unnoticed and I have acquired a great deal of fame all over the different regions. I suppose it doesn’t help that I always do my best to help anyone with pokemon, or pokemon in general, at any time I can if I see it could be done. I threw out Izanami and it opened a portal into the Distortion World, and another to bring us into Kanto. It was good to be back in my home region, and we were right in Viridian City. I decided to hit the Ranger HQ and see how things have been, thanks to my Guardian Styler even after all this time they should still recognize my status as having helped them all back in the day. Thankfully they recognized and accepted me, though a few wanted autographs either because of my adventures, or simply for having done such a great job living my life by the Ranger code whenever I could. They gave me a room for the night which allowed me to rest, sleep, and gather my thoughts. It took me a long time to decide whether I should see Claude or not, but reading through some articles in my room I read that he had left a while back. That made things both easier and more difficult, easy since I didn’t need to talk to him and deal with whatever weirdness he had going on. Hard because I was hoping he would have some insight into where Mewtwo would be. I didn’t want to rely on my memories cause I honestly wasn’t completely sure that I was correct on the location. However, in the article mentioning Claude’s departure I saw that the unnamed Cerulean Cave was mentioned. I read through and I knew that this cave, that few sail to, and the fewer that go inside always come out more confused than when they entered, had to be the place.
I stood in front of the Cerulean Cave, I could feel the energy as well as the aura radiating from it. If that wasn’t the place, I don’t know what would've been. I decided not to bring out the whole team, though I still walked with my baby guardians Flambe and Geyser. I had already decided how I wanted to handle Mewtwo, and I prayed to Arceus it would work. The cave was very much a maze, and even following the Aura I felt, I hit a few dead ends. With the aid of Flambe and Geyser though I eventually reached the end. At that end, stood Mewtwo, seemingly lost in thought. As I approached though I immediately heard a voice in my mind which shook me. “Leave now, human.” I truly was stunned, I knew Mewtwo was a powerful Psychic but even Seer couldn’t speak into my mind.
“I have come because I know of you, Mewtwo. I wish to earn your trust, friendship, and to make you my ally. Please, will you join me?” I asked.
“No, humans are fools as well as the Pokemon that serve them!” Without another word Mewtwo immediately shot off an aura sphere, but I was ready and launched one back causing a minor explosion that canceled them out. Mewtwo immediately went for a psystrike but I put up an aura barrier. Flambe and Geyser knew not to interfere unless I called for it. I moved fast and shot out Aura needles towards Mewtwo who stopped them mid-air and dropped them to the ground with his psychic power. Without relenting I created multiple aura spheres and shot out an Aura Cluster dropping multi spheres on Mewtwo. This time they hit. Mewtwo reeled but only for a second before trying to confuse me. Luckily, my aura control is powerful and prevents such manipulation of myself. With Mewtwo growing frustrated, he began to charge a hyper beam but this was an opportunity for me. I used my aura technique the Orbital Barrier, and as the hyper beam went to fire Mewtwo was encased by my barrier. The hyper beam was insanely powerful and still blew the barrier and I had to create an extra around myself to not get hurt from the aftershock, but the beam was too close and Mewtwo harmed himself with it like I aimed for. Mewtwo, worn out, was about to shoot an ice beam but I quickly shot out an Aura Flare, which blinded Mewtwo, worn out and blind. I threw my last Master Ball, and the most powerful Psychic Pokemon was now on Team Jace.
Year 9-10:
Ending it in the League
I spent the rest of year eight back at home with my parents. I’d called and talked to them plenty over my years but it was nice to be home. Plus the word had gotten around that I’d caught Mewtwo, who I’d named Neith. Four legendary pokemon and a known ranger all over the different regions, I suppose that will get you famous around here. At the beginning of year nine though, something interesting happened.
I was eating breakfast with my mom and dad, though they were happy I was back I knew it would be time for me to go soon. This world, and at my age, you just don’t stay too long with your parents. As I took a bite of my pikachu head shaped waffle, the doorbell rang. I got up to answer it and who should it be but the Pokemon League Champion of Hoenn! There before me stood Wallace himself. “Hello, Jace.”
I stood, momentarily confused. I shook myself lightly just to make sure it was really him, and it was. “Oh, uh, hey Wallace? What uh, what brings you all the way to my home in Kanto? Oh come in by the way.” I gestured for him to enter.
“No, I just need to get to the point and be on my way. I’m really busy you know!” he winked at me. “Well Jace, let’s say your fame has gone to all corners. I wish to go back to focusing on my gym, as doing that and being a League Champion, well, you get very little free time Jace. It’s too much to do both. So, I am here to ask the legend himself, to defend the League Championship for at least a year. What do you say?”
I couldn’t believe what I was hearing, but I could see he was in a hurry and that I would have time for questions later. So I accepted the position, after all it pays and it’s a great spot to be at. I thanked him for the opportunity, and he went on his way. I informed my family of what was going on, I packed my stuff, planned a place to stay, and then went immediately through the great power of Izanami.
I would say my final year in this world had been full of eventful occasions and close calls with capable trainers. Truthfully it was not. Aside from casting aside many zubats, and decimating the occasional hopeful trainer who managed to squeeze by the Elite Four. It really was unfortunate, but nobody powered through. By the time they reached me they were down to low hp on their last pokemon with no potions left. I can’t just let them through so it was what it was. At the end of the year, it was about time to head home. So I resigned as champion once the year ended, and the new champion took over. I called Claude to reconfirm that we were meeting at the water's edge where the League was that I worked. Claude and I of course had to have a battle, which was more fair surprisingly, each pairing tieing up. Then of course Claude had to get on his weird crap and start trying to attack me with his own fighting moves, but I countered with my aura refined reflexes, barriers and shooting spheres and needles as I had to. Our fight cut off before it reached any big level though, when everything around us seemed to freeze, a great wave arose in front of us, and never fell, and a great cloud emerged in the sky in the shape of a Man on a Pegasus.
“Ahh…I see you two have found each other, Jace, and Aleco.” Jump-Chan said. “Good, that makes this easier. You two believe that you are done here and going home yes? Well, what if I could make you another offer? Let’s keep this game going. You can stay here forever, go home and be done, or you may move forward. Continue to jump, and continue with your fun in other worlds. What do you say?” Claude and I looked at each other, we both missed home for at least one reason or another, but we knew the answer was to continue down this rabbit hole. “Good, ah and one more thing.” A void of darkness fell upon Claude and strobes of light erupted. When the darkness disappeared he seemed significantly weaker. “You cannot simply choose to ignore the rules of these realms, boy. You are not a pokemon, you are not some alien creature, you don’t get to decide you are more than what you are. Abide by the rules of the realms, or I will remove you myself. Now, onward!” The world went white, and we were gone.
